WHO ARE WE?
The Truckee Meadows
Trails Association grew out of the Open Steamboat Trail Association
because our members — walkers, hikers, bicyclists, mountain
bikers, horseback riders and others — are interested in
developing and preserving trails throughout the Truckee Meadows. We are
individuals who use existing trails close to home. We want to preserve
those trails and create new opportunities for outdoor recreation. This
year TMTA was won a Silver Star Award from Truckee Meadows Tomorrow for
our trails work.
WHY TRAILS?
Trails are a very special kind of open
space. They weave and meander through neighborhoods, parks,
watercourses, downtown areas and public lands providing people with a
much-needed source of recreation —and frequently
transportation. A trail is a place to get some exercise, think, visit
with friends, or simply escape from the urban noise and crowds.
We regard trail corridors as valuable community assets that enhance the
quality of life for all residents by providing enjoyable outdoor
recreation, safe routes for children, opportunities for physical
exercise that promtoes good health and transportation alternatives for
commuters.
The land on which we continue to build our community was here long
before we arrived, and it will be here long after we are gone. We
recognize that our stewardship of this land is only temporary and we
hope to pass it on to future generations parcelled and configured in a
way that encourages convenient enjoyment of its natural beauty through
outdoor recreation.
