ONGOING VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Being
an entirely volunteer organization we rely on members to help add trail
mileage and guaranty access to open space in the Truckee Meadows. Not
all involves physical building of trails. Here are some of the areas
you can choose to be involved with:
Trail
Construction —
Helping flag proposed trails alignments
Team Leader (after training session)
Crew participant using such exotic tools as McLeods, Polasky, rakes,
shovels, mattocks, and rock bars
Being able to walk or ride a trail and say, "I helped build that."
What
to expect —
TMTA supplies all tools and supplies for trail construction. On most
corporate sponsored trail construction even lunch is included. Projects
start between 8 or 9am and usually end between 1 or 2pm. Of course
volunteers with time restrictions are welcome to come for shorter
periods that fit their schedules.
Volunteers
are asked to bring proper weather-dependent clothing, sturdy boots,
long pants, long sleeve shirt, hat, sun protection, water, and food.
Participation
in trail projects is solely the responsibility of the participant. TMTA
can only be responsible for supplying tools and the location of the
project. There is a session before each project on safety and proper
procedure.
Advocate—
Attending City Council, County Commission, local CAB and NAB meetings
when trail access is being discussed. Your voices count!!
Writing short notes or emails to elected officials letting them know
your desires. Your opinions count!!
